When building a new VM using Cockpit's web interface to KVM on Fedora 29, the Network Type option leaves most options like Bridge to LAN, Generic ethernet connections, and Direct attachment greyed out. Anyone know why?

Did you try with network manager? Any missing package?

I have a standard Dell USB dock but want to use it with a Fedora 29 user.

      https://github.com/displaylink-rpm/displaylink-rpm

That repo has a pull request in for the Fedora 29 updates, but I figured I could build it early for testing. Also I want to get more familiar with doing this on Linux in general.

I have no *devel bits installed on my system. Obviously, I can clone it down and run make, but I wonder if I need any other resources?

Inside the "ci" folder there is a script to let fedora downlad everything and compile via makefile

      That did it.

Removed VLC and reboot borked the entire process.

That sucks. Were you using the default repo?

Nope, RPM Fusion because that's what their instructions said to do.

      http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html

Worked fine in 28. @JaredBusch said he got it to work. Do you recall how you did it Jared?

I uninstalled VLC first and by the end of the day VLC was in the packages again.

Okay, then I'll just hold on to it. Not like its taking up any more space than necessary. Thanks

Fedora only keeps 3 versions by default.

I'm not sure what CentOS 7 does now, but Cent OS 6 used to keep them all.

      So does Ubuntu.

Keeping them all was highly annoying when /boot had to be it's own partition. That's been quite a while, thankfully.

@NerdyDad Nope, by then I'm just starting my own 6 month upgrade cycle. Because in 3-4 months a new Fedora will come out, I'll wait 2-3 months again, and then upgrade. Like a clock 🙂

I've only had that issue when using it on KVM. On my Mac using Virtualbox is works.

I've not had it happen before.
